Dal Makhani, a favourite of Punjab (from North India), is cooked in Makhan (cream) as the name suggests. It is simmered on a slow flame of fire so that the curry matures to a full flavour and garnished with swirls of cream to temper the strong combination of spices. It is simple and tasty when served with Steam Rice / Jeera Pilaf (Cumin Seed Rice). Best when accompanied with fried green chilli, finely chopped onion and mixed pickles.
